Estelí is the third largest city in Nicaragua and is located in the Estelí department, roughly 150 km north of Managua. The city is the gateway to the northern regions of the country which makes it an active agricultural center and the main hub for a thriving tobacco and coffee industry.
After the Cuban revolution in 1959, the town became home for Cuban cigar makers, who brought with them their vast knowledge of cigars and the seeds for starting their plantations. Today Estelí is one of the most important cigar-producing cities in the world.
